Milo Fantails, a programme designed to introduce girls aged 5–12 to football in a fun and inclusive environment, is growing.
The initiative provides a welcoming space for girls to try the game for the first time or continue playing in a more social setting. With sessions running weekly—outside of traditional Saturday morning game times—Fantails focuses on friendship, skill development, and keeping active through football.
Since launching in April 2023, Mainland Football, supported by NZ Football, has delivered Fantails across eight hubs in the region, giving over 1,000 girls the chance to experience football, with more than 450 sessions run to date. In 2024, Cashmere Technical FC became the first club to deliver the programme, marking an important step in embedding Fantails into the club environment.
Now, four more clubs—Halswell United AFC, Nomads United AFC, Ferrymead Bays FC, and Ōtakaro FC — are joining the programme, expanding access to more communities. This growth aligns with Mainland Football and NZ Football’s commitment to creating high-quality experiences, increasing participation, and fostering a lifelong love of the game for girls.
With more clubs on board, more girls will have the chance to step onto the field, build confidence, make friends, and enjoy football in a space designed just for them.
